Heidi O'Sullivan

A Path Appears is a social initiative that has been birthed out of my personal and professional experiences. Working with parents under stress in the public Child and Adolescent Mental Health services, understanding the impact this was having on our future generations, and seeing my evolving story in their stories as I navigated parenting in this modern age. Learning

about attachment, about how stress is stored in the body, and how interlinked

our body and mind and soul truly are. In 2019, about to embark on a Masters

in Attachment Studies, instead I found myself applying this science to my own

life which supported me recovering from a sudden illness.

I graduated from Trinity College in 2005 with a Health Science degree in

Occupational Therapy and spent 13 years working in the public Child and

Adolescent Mental Health services, becoming a parent along the way. I have

had the privilege of being involved in many social initiatives over the years,

connecting with families from all around the world - from the slums of Calcutta to the favelas of Sao Paulo, school programmes for ex-child soldiers in Uganda to social initiatives for children begging on the streets of Dublin.  Parents all sharing the experience of navigating the world with what they have been given,  trying to do that well and to pass down to our kids how to do that well. It can be hard and it can be beautiful.

I believe in the power of small, well-supported groups of individuals to effect significant personal and communal change. A Path Appears seeks to facilitate and nurture such potential for transformation through small groups of teenagers and parents.

I love walking in the woods and being outside in nature, discovering new places, connecting in rich conversations and learning, always learning. I am a wife, daughter, sibling, and mother to three treasures living in Co. Wicklow, Ireland.

Groups and services are run alongside other professionals within the interdiscplinary network.

“Compassion is not a relationship between the healer and the wounded. It's a relationship between equals. Only when we know our own darkness well can we be present with the darkness of others. Compassion becomes real when we recognize our shared humanity.” - Pema Chödrön
